Cantors Assembly Education Committee
1.) Teleconference - Monday, March 3, 2008: "The Cantor and Meaning
Making" - an interactive teleconference with Rabbi Irwin Kula,
brother of Hazzan Mark Kula and son of Hazzan Mort Kula. Rabbi Kula
is the President of CLAL, The National Jewish Center for Learning
and Leadership, a leadership training institute, think tank and
resource center. An author and teacher, Rabbi Kula's latest book,
"Yearnings: Embracing the Sacred Messiness of Life," is one of the
sources of this talk.

2.) Teleconference - On
Tuesday, March 13, 2007, the Education Committee, under the
guidance of Chairperson Mimi Haselkorn, produced the first Cantors
Assembly national teleconference. The topic, "Learning and Praying
at the Same Time. Hands-on Ideas for Student Minyanim" was
presented by Rabbi Dr. Steven Brown, Dean of the William Davidson
Graduate School of Jewish Education, Director of the Melton
Research Center for Jewish Education and Assistant Professor of
Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. The
program was hosted and moderated by Hazzan Marcey
Wagner.

3.)
"Nosh and Drash" study session on Monday, May 21,
2007, moderated by Hazzan Elizabeth Berke with Rabbi Michael
Balinsky, Director of Faculty Development, Florence Melton Adult
Mini-School. The topic of discussion was "Helping Students Find
Their Jewish Voice: Interactive Teaching in Theory and
Practice."
We studied a passage from the Zohar and selected writings of Rabbi
Joseph Soloveitchick, Stephen Brookfield and Parker Palmer. Rabbi
Balinsky also addressed the potential stumbling blocks teachers may
face.
