Grant Submission Information
The Cantors Assembly Foundation (CAF) is a philanthropic organization comprised primarily of past presidents of the Cantors Assembly (Inc.), as well as a few invited members at large, including the Executive Director of the Cantors Assembly. Sitting on this body is also the CA’s legal counsel, Morris (Maury) L Garten. Financial decisions regarding the Foundation’s holdings are made in consultation with Bonnie Krosin, Vice President of Wealth Management and Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley.
The principal focus of CAF is to process grant requests from a variety of sources that complement its mission statement - to make a difference in the world through Jewish study, music and worship. CAF will encourage, nurture and support inspiring and creative Jewish musical, educational and liturgical projects.
CAF’s budget is calendared from January 1st – December 31st. A percentage of available funds available for allocation, yearly, is typically set at 5% of the CAF’s reserves. Once this amount has been disbursed, no other monies will be granted for that calendar year, unless a special meeting is convened to consider unique circumstances.
In the past, applicants for funding could submit their requests at any time during the year. This often led to ‘first come first serve’ allocations, leaving some very worthy applicants from having a fair chance at consideration. Beginning on January 1, 2024, the CAF’s guidelines pertaining to deadlines for submission of grant proposals will change as noted below.
Submissions for grant support in 2024, and beyond, will have a generous window of opportunity to receive consideration, from January 1st through May 15th. No other submissions will be accepted after that time. Between May 15th and October 1st, CAF will convene to consider the merits of each request for funding. Disbursement of funds for approved applications will take place annually on November 1st. Applicants of proposals not accepted are free to resubmit their requests, on or after January 1st of the following year, should they wish for CAF to reconsider their project.
