The Cantors Assembly proudly unveils a virtual concert series, Kol Yisrael (”Voice of Israel”) featuring contemporary Israeli musician artists presenting their music. With the current situation in Israel, most professional Israeli musicians have suffered a particular blow to their livelihood, on top of the national and personal trauma every Israeli is experiencing. Performances, tours, and students have been canceled and disappeared. The most successful and talented musicians are those who do not have “day jobs” but rely on their art for their livelihood.

With the goal to highlight Israeli musicians and their art, Cantors Assembly is initially launching a 3-part series with select Israeli artists including a virtual (Zoom-based) concert followed by an in depth interview by Cantor Rachel Brook and Cantor Arianne Brown. Cantors Assembly is showcasing Israeli artists for a deeper understanding of who they are as human beings, Israeli citizens, and musicians during this moment of conflict.

Our series initially includes these three performances which all begin at 8:00PM EST, includes:

March 14, 2024 - Hewan & Elad Gelert and their World Music Ensemble

HEWAN is an eclectic music project that includes lead singer Hewan Meshesha, guitarist Yotam Cohen and Saxophonist Elad Gelert reflecting the unique sounds and rhythms of Beita Israel immigrants. A project born and lead by Hewan Meshesha, HEWAN mixes Ethiopian musical ideas with modern influences reflect a new image of the second generation of immigrants - a truly mixed culture. Hewan Meshesha is calling for listeners to dive into her own story by creating her own sound and unique music, backed by Ground Heights project and following her own cultural rules brought forward a strong and exciting music that lifts the spirit and body.

April 11, 2024 - Cantor Elana Rozenfeld and Yonatan Kunta

The Story (הסיפור) is a performance of songs from a new musical in-the-making telling the story of Exodus through the eyes of its feminine heroines and its significance for us today, in 2024, combining Hip-Hop, spoken-word and original scores in English and Hebrew. Elana Rozenfeld is a cantor, performer, songwriter and theatre artist living in Kiryat Tivon, Israel, with her husband and three children, exploring her musical boundaries in jazz and hip hop, and writing new songs. Yonatan Kunda is a Poet, musician, actor and educator. Yonatan is a pioneer of spoken-word in Israel and a founder of several musical ensembles mixing Prayer and Piyut with Hip-Hop. He teaches and performs poetry in Hebrew, Arabic and English in diverse communities throughout Israel and abroad.

May 9, 2024 - Trio Clara Classical

The Clara Trio is a group of leading Israeli Musicians includes violinist Eyal Keles, the cellist Hagit Glazer and the pianist Ron Regev. The Trio plays an extensive and varied repertoire in concerts all over the country and combines the explanations and humor in their performances of Jewish Classical Music.
